Now the model has dialed in on LSU vs. Clemson in the 2020 National Championship Game. We can tell you it’s leaning under, and it also says one side of the spread hits in nearly 60 percent of simulations. You can head to SportsLine to see the pick. Now, here are the college football odds and trends for Clemson vs. LSU:

LSU vs. Clemson spread: LSU -5.5
LSU vs. Clemson over-under: 69.5 points
LSU vs. Clemson money line: LSU -225, Clemson +183
LSU: QB Joe Burrow has thrown 55 touchdown passes and six interceptions
CLEM: RB Travis Etienne has a rushing TD in eight straight games

The model knows LSU set a plethora of records in the College Football Playoff semifinals en route to its 15th consecutive victory. In addition to numerous individual accomplishments, the team entered the College Football Playoff record book by amassing 49 points in the first half, 63 points overall and 692 yards of total offense. Burrow had a game for the ages, throwing seven scoring passes in the opening 30 minutes and finishing with eight total TDs.

The Heisman Trophy winner threw for 493 yards to raise his season total to 5,208, making him just the fifth player in history to pass for 5,000 yards and 50 touchdowns in a season and first since Fresno State’s Derek Carr in 2013. Burrow has completed a staggering 77.6 percent of his pass attempts.

Despite its electric offense, LSU is not guaranteed to cover the LSU vs. Clemson spread in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game 2020.

That’s because Clemson is riding a 29-game winning streak, the longest active run in the nation. It also matches the longest streak in ACC history set by Florida State from 2012-14. Clemson is the only school to register 12 victories over Power Five teams this season.

Quarterback Trevor Lawrence, who has yet to experience defeat in his collegiate career, ran for a 67-yard touchdown and threw a 34-yard scoring pass to Etienne with less than two minutes remaining in Clemson’s semifinal victory. Etienne finished with a pair of receiving scores against Ohio State to double his season total.

Sugar Bowl 2020

The Georgia Bulldogs (11-2) from the SEC face off against the Baylor Bears (11-2) for the Big 12. Georgia enters this game with some changes on the coaching staff and Kirby Smart wondering how he needs to tweak his offense for 2020. Matt Rhule will want to use this game as a springboard into 2020. He will have a team ready to compete for the Big 12 next season led by quarterback Charlie Brewer.

For this game, the Bulldogs will be without several key players including five starters. Two of these starters include offensive tackle Andrew Thomas and defensive back J.R. Reed. Both of whom were All-Americans this season. This has helped the spread fall like a rock. After opening at 8.5 in favor of Georgia the spread currently sits at 5.5.

Overview

Trying to figure out who to back in bowl games has much more to do with the psychological aspect as opposed to straight X’s and O’s. Some teams enter the season with lofty expectations while others come in with a lower bar and are able to fly over it. This is one of those cases.

Georgia came into this game with the expectation of getting back the College Football Playoff and trying to finish the job. Despite finishing 11-2, this was a letdown season for the Bulldogs. While they won the SEC East, they were dismantled in the SEC Championship by LSU and left on the outside looking in for the College Football Playoff.

Baylor, on the other hand, is just a few short years away from the Art Briles era that left the program in shambles. They also finished the season 11-2 but fans in Waco are ecstatic with the season the Bears had. Both of their losses came at the hands of Oklahoma including a regular-season contest that without a dramatic collapse might have had Baylor in the Playoff.

Citrus Bowl 2020

The #14 Michigan Wolverines take on the #13 Alabama Crimson Tide in the VRBO Citrus Bowl. This marks the first year in the six-year history of the College Football Playoff that Alabama is not one of the top four teams competing. In fact, since 2012, the Crimson Tide have played just one bowl game that did not have championship implications. Alabama has played in an NCAA record 70 bowls, where they have compiled a 41-26-3 record. This game is Michigan’s 48th bowl appearance, and have gone 21-26 prior to this season. The Wolverines have lost their last three bowl appearances.

Start Time: 1:00 PM ET- January 1st, 2020
Last Meeting: September 1st, 2012- Alabama def. Michigan 41-14

Overview

This game features two teams who had playoff aspirations before the season started, and who ultimately fell short of their goal. Alabama started the year ranked #2 in the AP poll. They lost their two biggest games of the year (46-41 vs. LSU, 48-45 at Auburn). As a result, they were left out of the playoffs for the first time ever. On the other side, Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh’s seasons seem to be defined by if he can beat Ohio State. That is something he has never done since taking over in 2015. The Wolverines played a tougher schedule than the Crimson Tide and have two top 25 wins on their resume (10-3 vs #14 Iowa, 45-14 vs #8 Notre Dame). However, they were defeated in their other big games by Wisconsin, Penn State, and Ohio State and never seriously challenged for a playoff berth.

Alabama may have had a shot to beat Auburn in the season finale, and earn their way back into the playoff picture. However, they could not overcome an injury to starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. Tagovailoa suffered a season-ending hip injury against Mississippi State they kept him out of the final two regular-season games. He was replaced by sophomore quarterback Mac Jones who has thrown for 1,176 yards and has an 11:3 touchdown to interception ratio in five games worth of action.

Outside of the injury to Tagovailoa, another big reason for Alabama missing out on the playoffs was their defense. This year’s defense was not your vaunted Nick Saban unit that was high atop every statistical category. They ranked 17th in the country in YPG allowed (318.5) but allowed 18.8 PPG and got torched in the biggest spots. To make matters worse, they will be without linebacker Terrell Lewis and cornerback Trevon Diggs who are sitting out the game to prepare for the NFL draft.

Michigan, meanwhile will have their full complement of players for this game and are looking to end the season on a high note against one of the sport’s storied universities. Michigan’s season had a bit of an ebb and flow to it. They avoided disaster against Army prevailing 24-21 before their loss to Wisconsin the following week. They entered the Ohio State game having won seven of eight games, including a valiant effort in a loss at Penn State and a blowout of Notre Dame. However, they lost their eighth straight to Ohio State in blowout fashion. They now take aim at another high-powered offense in Alabama’s who averages 48.3 PPG.

Michigan ranks sixth in the country in YPG allowed (292.8) and are fifth in the Big Ten allowing 19.5 PPG. They are one of four FBS teams (Clemson, Ohio State, and Georgia are the others) who held opponents under 300 yards in at least eight games. On offense, quarterback Shea Patterson will have to improve upon his 57.3 completion percentage in order to move the ball consistently against the Crimson Tide defense.

Outback Bowl 2020

No. 12 Auburn will take on No. 18 Minnesota on Wednesday afternoon in the Outback Bowl in Tampa in one of the most intriguing non-New Year’s Six games of bowl season. The Tigers are fresh off an upset win over Alabama to close the regular season, while the Golden Gophers enjoyed a 10-win campaign in which they were in contention for the Big Ten West title for a majority of the season.

What will happen along the gulf coast after we ring in the new year? Let’s break down the matchup and make picks straight up and against the spread.

Storylines

Auburn: The Tigers will get a huge boost with defensive linemen Derrick Brown and Marlon Davidson — who will likely be high draft picks in the 2020 NFL Draft — choosing to play in the game rather than sit out and prepare for their futures. As a result, the stout Auburn defense, which has given up just 4.67 yards per play on the year, should be full strength against a Golden Gophers offense that has built plenty of confidence on offense throughout the season. This game is a chance for Auburn quarterback Bo Nix to take the next step after a solid true freshman season that saw him throw for 2,366 yards and 15 touchdowns. Expect new offensive coordinator Chad Morris to add a few wrinkles to the offense as he begins preparation for the 2020 season.

Minnesota: The Golden Gophers became one of the feel-good stories of the 2019 season as they stayed in the College Football Playoff race until the end of November. The offense, led by quarterback Tanner Morgan and running back Rodney Smith, finished fourth in the conference in total offense at 426.8 yards per game and third at 6.34 yards per play. Defensive back Antoine Winfield Jr. has seven interceptions on the season, including one that he returned for a touchdown. He leads a talented unit that allowed just 312.8 yards per game in 2019.

Outback Bowl prediction, picks

It seems like Auburn is expecting to light up the scoreboard like it did in last season’s Music City Bowl win over Purdue. That’s flawed logic. The Tigers will look a little different with Morris’ influence on the scheme, but it’ll still be the same, predictable Gus Malzahn offense that struggles to make mid-game adjustments. As a result, the Golden Gophers will have a chance late. In the end, Davidson and Brown will make their presence felt and help Auburn win a nail-biter. Pick: Minnesota (+7)

Rose Bowl 2020

The 2020 Rose Bowl will be played between the No. 6 Oregon Ducks and the No. 8 Wisconsin Badgers. Here are some key matchups, odds and predictions.
One of the marquee games of the New Year’s Six this year in college football has to be the Rose Bowl presented by Northwestern Mutual. Though not part of the College Football Playoff this year, we have a terrific matchup between the No. 6 Oregon Ducks (11-2) and the No. 8 Wisconsin Badgers (10-3).

Kickoff from the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California will be at 5:00 p.m. ET/2:00 p.m. PT on New Year’s Day, Jan. 1. ESPN will have the national telecast and the available live stream can be found on WatchESPN.

Oregon enters play as a two-loss Pac-12 Champion. The Ducks defeated the Utah Utes in the Pac-12 Championship to earn their right to play for the Rose Bowl. A pair of losses to the Auburn Tigers and the Arizona State Sun Devils are what kept them out of the playoff, but Mario Cristobal’s team is the best group out on the West Coast this season. They’re a tough out for sure.

Wisconsin enters play as a three-loss, non-Power 5 champion. Because the Ohio State Buckeyes won the Big Ten title and earned their trip to the College Football Playoff, the Badgers were selected as the second-best Big Ten team to satisfy the Rose Bowl’s conference affiliation requirements. Two of Wisconsin’s three loses are to Ohio State, so it’s not a huge hit against them.

With a huge game for both programs on the line, here are some marquee matchups to look forward to on the gridiron, the associated betting odds for this high-profile bowl game and a pick for who is going to come out on top and smell the roses to start 2020 out on the right foot.

Key Matchups

Justin Herbert vs. Eric Burrell

The most notable player in this game will be Oregon quarterback Justin Herbert. Herbert is likely to be a top-10 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. He has a strong right arm, can move around to extend plays with his legs, but can be a tad inaccurate with the football. Look for Wisconsin free safety Eric Burrell to do his very best to contain the star signal-caller for the Ducks in the Rose Bowl.

Jonathan Taylor vs. Troy Dye

Jonathan Taylor is the best running back in college football. He has won the Doak Walker Award in the last two seasons for the Badgers. Taylor is the identity of this Wisconsin offense, as their smash-mouth style will look to punch the Ducks in the mouth. Looking to limit Taylor’s effectiveness will be outside linebacker Troy Dye of the Oregon defense.

Penei Sewell vs. Zack Baun

Oregon offensive tackle Penei Sewell just won the Outland Trophy for the best lineman in college football. He is the best player on Cristobal’s awesome offensive line and has been a huge reason Herbert has had as much success this season for the Ducks. Fortunately for Wisconsin, the Badgers have a great pass rusher in the form of Zack Baun to challenge the Oregon left tackle.

Odds

Entering play of the 2020 Rose Bowl, Wisconsin is laying 2.5 points on a neutral site to Oregon. The over/under for this game is 51 points. The associated moneylines for this bowl game are Wisconsin -140 and Oregon +120. All odds are courtesy of The Action Network.

Prediction

Because of the offensive firepower of both schools, let’s side with the over in this one. We will see great play out of both Herbert and Taylor, as this one has the feel of it going down to the wire. Since we a better feel for what we’re going to get out of Taylor as opposed to Herbert, let’s take the Badgers to win and cover. Wisconsin wins the Rose Bowl by a late, fourth-quarter touchdown.

Pick: Wisconsin 30, Oregon 24
